School Council

Welcome to St Maria Goretti Catholic Academy Council Page.

The school council is a group of children who represent their peers and bring forward their views to improve the school and its grounds.  The members of the school council are two pupils from each class from Years 1-6 normally one boy and one girl. The school council has been running since 2005 and our achievements have grown each year. This year we developed our first 'School Council Charter' so we ensure we deliver on our responsibilities as school leaders;

SCHOOL COUNCIL CHARTER

  • Be a good listener; speak up for your class

  • Be a reliable role model; follow the school Respect Rules

  • Be a confident communicator; take away the right message

  • Be a creative problem solver; consider different solutions

  • Be brave; talk honestly about the issue

At the meetings, held by Mrs Davis and Mrs Bedson, we decide what we can do to improve the school.  We don’t just decide ourselves what to do, our class peers put their ideas down too through questionnaires, class discussions and through the ideas box.

To decide on the class representative we hold a class election in September. We also vote for a Chair Person each year.

Please talk to you School Council representatives if you have any suggestions or ideas that you would like to out forward at our next meeting.

On the 24th November the school council from years 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 went on a visit to see how the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank operates. The children went to the main warehouse where all the food is sorted into the different categories and sent out to the 16 different collection points around the city. They moved on to a collection centre in Longton where the children labelled the goods with the sell-by date for easier clarification for the volunteers who give their time to help the families who need the service.
