Key Stage 1 Writing
Year 1 and Year 2:
As children progress through KS1, continuous provision is transitioned to more discrete English lessons, as appropriate for the cohort.
A high level of talk opportunities are provided to enable pupils to talk about quality texts, photographs, videos, trips and experiences. This enables the development of vocabulary which is developed with the pupils and pre-taught in reading sessions to enable use in writing. Writing skills are taught through each week, leading to a final piece of writing that our pupils can celebrate. They are given opportunities to apply spellings learnt in phonics, in their writing, as well as editing their writing using a success criteria. Pupils are awarded for improved presentation and handwriting with a special pencil or a pen licence, where the continuous cursive script is sustained.
